Sony denies restarting PS4 production, it has never stopped production

It was previously reported that Sony will restart the PS4 production line this year in response to the shortage of Sony PS5 chips resulting in insufficient production. However, according to media reports, a few days ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) PR denied this claim, saying that there is no plan to end PS4 production at the end of last year.

The cause of the incident is that an insider revealed that Sony originally planned to stop the production of PS4 at the end of 2021, but due to the shortage of PS5, Sony will continue to produce PS4 this year and plans to increase production by about 1 million units. Released in 2013, the Sony PS4 has sold nearly 116 million units so far, and it is still a popular choice for consumers who are just starting out with consoles.

In November 2020, Sony released the PlayStation 5 series of new next-generation game consoles. Due to the epidemic and other reasons, the supply of consoles was insufficient, and the scalpers stocked up a lot, which eventually led to the price of PS5 skyrocketing, making it difficult to find one.

It is worth mentioning that Sony once said that part of the reason for the large shortage of PS5 is due to strong demand, but one of the biggest reasons is the shortage of components such as semiconductors. At present, the global semiconductor industry is deeply troubled by shortages, which makes Sony simply can’t make enough PS5s.
