The sad ending of Redmi K20 and K20 Pro

Rewinding the ribbon to 2019, the smartphones most often associated with the best buy appellation were, without fear of denial, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro (and their European counterparts Xiaomi Mi 9T and Xiaomi Mi 9T Pr), but now these glories are not so old are experiencing the worst of endings.

In short, while at Redmi the expectation is growing for the next Redmi K50 flagship series and for the arrival in Europe of the new Redmi Notes, there is also a washing of the head to do to the Chinese brand.

Redmi K20 and K20 Pro deserved a better finish

Arrived on the market with Android 9 Pie and MIUI 10 on board, the two smartphones – like most Android devices of that period – should have received the classic three years of software support, however, the history of the Redmi K20 series seems to have ended. ahead of time and in a way that is anything but pleasant for buyers.

A large number of online users complain of the presence of many and serious bugs since the release of the update to MIUI 12 for Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro and, to further aggravate the situation, the apparent early and unannounced conclusion of the software support official for the two smartphones.

Although, as seen, the MIUI 12 is the third version of the ROM to be made available for the two devices, the most recent updates based on it for smartphones destined for the Indian and global markets are giving owners too much trouble. From lag when opening apps, blocking floating windows, passing through sudden drops in fps in games, keyboard overlap problems, grouping notifications and more.

The list is long, however, but no real response has come from the Chinese manufacturer, only invitations to users from the bot to get in touch with support, so far. Yes, because Redmi has even worsened the situation: a user told on Twitter that he had reported hundreds of bugs and that he had received confirmation from a forum moderator that no other software updates are planned for his Redmi K20 Pro.

To be honest, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro have received other updates only in China, however, a certainty remains: two smartphones that have collected a lot of acclaims and that have done so much well in terms of sales would have deserved a completely different epilogue and, if Xiaomi will not decide to seriously support their devices, the leap in quality awaited for years will never come.
