Sony PS VR2 official announcement, Horizon series of VR games confirmed to be in development

Sony China announced on January 23 that the Horizon series of VR games were confirmed to be under development, called Horizon VR Call of the Mountain. Developed by Guerrilla and Firesprite, the game is coming to the next generation of VR: PlayStation VR2.

This is the first official announcement of Sony’s second-generation VR device. As early as the PlayStation 5 game console was released in 2020, it was reported that Sony would launch a new PlayStation VR series. But more than a year after the release of the PS5, the next-generation PSVR has been slow to make new progress.

Sony PlayStation head Hideaki Nishino said in February 2021 that PSVR 2 would be a huge leap forward, but there is still a lot of development work going on on the product, so it won’t launch in 2021. Bloomberg previously reported that PlayStation VR2 will be released in 2022 and will truly be compatible with PS5. The product will use a 4K OLED display panel made by Samsung, with further enhanced motion tracking, a new ring controller, and a Type-C interface.
