Blizzard’s survival game was revealed in the form of developer recruitment news on the company’s website, and here’s how Blizzard describes its new game:

Blizzard is working on our next exploration. We’re heading to a whole new universe, home to a whole new survival game for PC and consoles. This place is full of heroes we haven’t met, stories we haven’t told, and adventures we haven’t experienced yet. A vast field of possibilities awaits us to explore.

The announcement is also accompanied by two artworks. One shows what appears to be an ax-wielding ranger, wearing a helmet shaped like an animal skull, crouching in a forest in light armor. A series of colored footprints appear to be being traced, while a window or mirror opposite it appears to reveal a portal to another, more modern world.

Another work shows the opposite scenario: a pair of teenagers stumble upon a fantasy world in a modern urban setting with a floating castle in the distance. The game’s name, release platform, and release date are all unknown, but the project sounds like it’s already in development.

Shortly after the announcement, Blizzard Entertainment head Mike Ibarra tweeted: I’ve been planning this project with the team for hours and couldn’t be more excited about the team’s vision and the new world it’s bringing to players. let them immerse themselves in it together.

Shortly after Microsoft announced plans to buy parent company, Activision Blizzard, for $68.7 billion, Blizzard unexpectedly (and unexpectedly low-key) announced a brand new game that would also be Blizzard’s first foray into survival games. Blizzard has a slew of previously announced projects in the works, including Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, and Overwatch 2.
