Apple’s active devices exceed 1.8 billion, an increase of 150 million over last year

During the Q1 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared some interesting stats — such as the company’s more than 1.8 billion active devices, an increase of about 9% from last year’s 1.65 billion. Obviously, this has a lot to do with demand growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. For reference, Apple added more than 100 million active devices between 2019 and 2020, 150 million between 2020 and 2021, and then another 150 million in 2022.

The iPhone category alone generated $76.1 billion in revenue for Apple this past holiday shopping season. In addition, Apple’s market share in China has also hit a record high as it heads towards the 2022 New Year. Apple’s total revenue for the quarter was $123.9 billion, up 11% year over year.

However, as the new crown virus pandemic continues, the biggest factor affecting its device sales still falls on the global shortage of processors and the difficulty in meeting the strong purchasing demand of consumers.
