OnePlus is really drifting now

The former flagship killers are now extremely adapted to the market. There are also strategic decisions that leave OnePlus fans at a loss. The time of the revolutionaries seems to be over. More than ever OnePlus belongs to Oppo and somehow that doesn’t do the once celebrated start-up that good.

Anyway, some weird things happen that don’t necessarily have to be. It all started with the merger of the software. Oppo is now primarily responsible for the operating system. This means more than just “support” for OnePlus. The software installed on the OnePlus 10 Pro is as much ColorOS as it has ever been.

The phone just mentioned has already been introduced, but is initially only available in China. Meanwhile, OnePlus is probably preparing for the international market launch. This could then bring the software called H2OOS. A composite of HydrogenOS (China) and OxygenOS (global). Even if this name makes sense from a chemical point of view, it probably isn’t a good choice from a marketing point of view.

OnePlus with some unfortunate choices

But not only this new name raises questions. A look at the camera too. P2D50T is written in the circular lightning bolt. A combination of letters and numbers that makes no sense even at a second glance. This abbreviation stands for the second generation of the Hasselblad mobile camera (2D) for phones (P) and for the triple camera setup of 50-megapixel sensors (50T). OK.

For some time now, OnePlus has not been what the brand used to be in the early years. With the deep integration in Oppo you lose even more of your own identity. I noted that in a comment a while ago. Unfortunately, I wasn’t necessarily wrong.
