Activision Blizzard’s active user decline FF14 successfully helps SE user growth

According to new data released by Activision Blizzard, its number of monthly active users fell again. By contrast, Square Enix’s numbers are on the rise.

Across every division under Activision Blizzard, player counts fell. In December 2021, Activation’s player count dropped from 119 million to 107 million, while Blizzard dropped from 26 million to 24 million.

On the other hand, Square Enix’s MAU rose again last quarter. This is largely due to the success of its MMO game Final Fantasy 14. The game was so popular that it caused server congestion, so the official temporarily suspended the shipment and sales of the newcomer version and the full version and stopped the registration acceptance of the free trial version of the game.

Yesterday, Blizzard confirmed that the Warcraft mobile game will be launched on the mobile platform within the year, and this news may attract players to return.
