Android: These smartphones and tablets get four years of Android updates (list)

Many smartphone manufacturers deliver at least two years of Android updates for their devices and add a third year depending on their mood – this also applies to Google with the three-year promise.

But now Samsung is dropping a real bombshell and will provide many current and future smartphones and tablets with Android updates and five years with security updates.

Tomorrow Samsung will present the new Galaxy S22 family and will probably announce a real surprise that has now been announced in advance – but is no less effective. The leak of a support document shows that a number of smartphones and tablets should be provided with Android updates for a full four years and security updates for five years.

This is not only a very long period of time but also currently a unique selling proposition. This new update promise will depend on a few factors such as the specific model or region, but basically includes the following devices:

  • Galaxy S21
  • Galaxy S21 FE
  • Galaxy S22
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3
  • Galaxy Z Flip 3
  • Galaxy Tab S8

Further details have not yet become known but could be delivered on Wednesday as another nice goodie in addition to the presentation of the Galaxy S22. Samsung would be the first mass manufacturer to offer such a long update guarantee in the Android world. The company has already proven over the past few years that they have learned from the mistakes of the past and has suddenly become a pioneer in terms of Android updates.

Samsung users can be happy in the future, hopefully, other smartphone manufacturers will soon follow suit with similarly long promises (and then actions!) and Google can only ring the alarm bells – both positive and negative. It is also thanks to Google that Android can be updated for so long through many modifications in the background. But Google is also known to be a smartphone manufacturer and should actually offer the longest update guarantee because you are at the source.

Should Samsung actually announce the whole thing, which I’m sure it will, Google’s Pixel department can no longer boast of the longest Android updates and should urgently follow up.
