In a recent Microsoft 365 blog post, the company informs that it plans to ensure that VBA macros (Visual Basic for Applications) obtained from the Internet are blocked by default in a whole range of Office applications in the future.
This also means that Office files with the corresponding macros that you may have downloaded once will no longer work as originally planned. This step is of course justified with the security for the users since it is easy for attackers to place malware and co. on target devices thanks to macros.
However, the changes will not be implemented immediately for all users; on the contrary, the first tests will begin in the Office current channel at the beginning of April this year.
Regular Microsoft 365 customers will be supplied later. Affected products are Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Word, but in the future Office LTSC, Office 2021, Office 2019, Office 2016 and even Office 2013 will also be remodeled accordingly. The blocking can be removed manually by the user via the file properties.
