Samsung may increase Galaxy S22 production to meet demand

Chip shortages are a problem for every tech company in the world, no matter how big or small Samsung is, and the South Korean giant is going through it too. With chip shortages an ongoing issue, Samsung may struggle to keep up with market demand for the Galaxy S22 series released last night.

Now, a report from The Elec suggests that Samsung is working to increase the production of Galaxy S22 devices by 20 percent. This means that the company will produce more than 30 million smartphones, of which 12 million will be for the base model, 8 million for the Plus model, and 10 million for the Ultra model.

However, the number of components does not directly translate to the number of finished products, as not all components are fully supplied. Last September, during the planning stages of the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung had already planned to manufacture enough components first to produce 20 million units ahead of schedule.

But the company recently raised its shipment target as it expects the global smartphone market to return to growth rates in 2022 compared to last year, the sources said.

However, the late shipment target of 20 million units is still lower than Samsung’s annual shipments of flagship phones as of 2019, which exceeded 30 million units.

The tech giant’s parts supplier has been producing and delivering parts for the Galaxy S22 series since November. Judging by the pre-order performance, Samsung expects the Galaxy S22 to be a big sell, however, we are still not sure if Samsung can successfully manufacture and sell 30 million S22 phones.

While the S22 and Plus versions do have significant upgrades over their predecessors in terms of internals, the design remains largely unchanged.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is noticeably more in the spotlight, and despite its hefty price tag of $1,199, this phone should be a buy for anyone looking to relive the Galaxy Note experience.

Whatever the case may be, Samsung’s supply chain division has a long way to go before we can see if the Galaxy S22 series plans are successful.
