With the so-called guest mode, Google allows a little more anonymity during voice input for smart assistant speakers. Google is expanding guest mode for smart speakers with Google Assistant these days. More languages will be added.
However, guest mode has been available with us for a long time, which you may not have known. Guest mode means that all voice commands and inputs are removed from the history. In addition, there are no personal results. Which in turn means that “general” voice commands work primarily – play music, for example.
Google Assistant: Guest mode saves fewer data and hides personal details
This is what happens in guest mode:
- Google automatically deletes audio recordings and Google Assistant activity, such as B. Questions you ask your Assistant from the device owner’s account. Although your audio recordings and Assistant activities on a device are usually saved to your Google account, the guest mode doesn’t.
- No personal results such as appointments from Google Calendar or personal contacts are announced or displayed.
- If you ask the Google Assistant to interact with other Google services, such as YouTube, those activities may be recorded.
- Third-party apps and actions, such as media or smart home services, that you use with the Google Assistant may save your activities related to those apps and actions.
However, not all private data is turned off in guest mode. For example, you still have access to shared contacts. The picture frame function also remains active and usable in guest mode if it is activated on a smart display. And of course, it is also clear that you can still influence your Spotify recommendations in guest mode.
