There is always something to discover on the Google Maps platform, sometimes only temporarily – but no less worth seeing. Some time ago, a lover came up with something very special for Valentine’s Day and placed a huge marriage proposal in a field.
The marriage proposal featured on Google Maps satellite photos and made headlines around the world. Unfortunately, today the message can only be guessed at.
Some time ago, if you scrolled over the small town of Hüttenberg in the Lahn-Dill district with Google Maps, you could discover an oversized message that goes very well with Valentine’s Day.
The oversized message “Will you marry me?” can be read in the middle of a field, which was actually still legible without any problems even with 3-4 smaller zoom levels. Coincidentally, Google Maps had updated the satellite photos when the message was very clear, as you can see in the screenshot below.
In fact, this message was not simply mowed into the field but was prepared long in advance. With the help of a friend, the person asking had configured a seed drill months earlier so that some spots on the cornfield remain free and thus form a huge message. That also explains why the message seems a bit warped – at least, in this case, it is not due to incorrectly composed satellite photos from Google Maps.
The marriage proposal today
The plan was for the lucky respondent to discover the message purely by accident with a camera drone – which actually worked. Neither of the “ambassadors” had thought at all that this huge lettering could also appear on the satellite photos of Google Maps, but of course, they were happy to take it with them and thus probably made it the best-known marriage proposal of the past year – which is a pleasure to take with them.
By the way, the application was successful, in June 2020 the marriage should take place. As far as I know, this took place with the exclusion of Google Maps.
Unfortunately, the message has now disappeared and can no longer be seen on the satellite photos. On the screenshot above you can see what the marriage proposal looked like a year ago. With a little concentration and knowledge of the short sentence, it can still be recognized today.
