Netflix: 10-year partnership with Marvel is coming to an end

Before Disney launched streaming, Netflix and Marvel teamed up to launch a series of TV shows. But Netflix has announced that it will no longer be possible to watch Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher on Netflix soon.

Earlier today, unnamed Netflix and Disney spokespersons have confirmed to The Verge that Netflix’s license will end on February 28.

Media Polygon pointed out that several characters from the Netflix show appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as the production continued to normalize, Marvel decided to take it back into its arms. However, things like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and some animated content should remain on Netflix.

This ended a partnership that started in 2012, and in 2018, Netflix announced the cancellation of all program renewals. “That’s why we got into the original business five years ago,” Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos told Reuters back in 2017.
