Windows 11 Sun Valley 2 update will include apps folder in start menu

Microsoft is now gearing up to roll out the first major update to Windows 11, and the first qualifying devices are expected to get it at some point in the next few days. But at the same time, Microsoft is working around the clock on several other exciting features, some of which will be available to the Insider community first.

If you’re part of the Windows Insider program, you probably already know that Microsoft has delayed the latest two builds due to a batch of new features coming to users in the Dev channel. In other words, Microsoft needs more time to prepare for these exciting updates, so the next preview builds will have more new things to try.

One of them is to support the application folder in the start menu. As it turns out, Microsoft finally decided that the Apps folder should appear in the Start menu, having previously removed it when it rolled out Windows 11.

Apps folders have been available to Windows 10 users before, although at the time, these folders were actually nested groups of live tiles pinned to the Start menu.

A similar approach will be used this time around, allowing users to simply move one app icon over another, creating a folder. They can then drag and drop the icons they want in the same folder, keeping things in the Start menu more organized, regardless of the number of apps currently installed.

As mentioned, the feature will be coming to Insider’s computers soon, and production devices should get it in the Sun Valley 2 update later this year.
