For Windows Insider members of the Dev channel, the Windows 11 system preview has been off for 2 weeks, leading some to wonder if something happened internally that caused the release to be suspended.

According to the news, Microsoft hopes to use this extra week to add new features and implement some changes to the public preview branch of Windows 11 (rs_prerelease).

This may be a big reason for the lack of new features in the recently released Windows 11 Dev Channel preview. However, it’s also worth noting that Build will see a huge jump (to 250xx), suggesting that this will be a new phase of development.

Regardless, we can expect new features to come to us soon. Some of these changes include the following.

  • Create an application folder in the start menu itself
  • Support drag and drop on the taskbar
  • New Acrylic blur effect for traditional title blocks
  • New Snap UX called “Snap Bar”
  • New gesture to open the start menu
  • Touch support for the quick settings panel.
