If you recently bought a new Pixel 6, you may have also bought the matching Pixel Stand for wireless charging of your smartphone. The charging station initially had to take a lot of criticism because the advertised services could not even begin to be achieved – but that’s over now. An update ensures that wireless charging with up to 23 watts is possible. It only takes two simple steps.
The Pixel Stand charging station has grown significantly with the second generation and the charging capacity has increased significantly, at least on paper. So far, however, the promised values of up to 23 watts for the Pixel 6 Pro have not even come close to being achieved.
More than 10 watts for the pixel were not possible. Numerous tests have shown that you can differentiate between 10 and 23 watts based on the duration and perhaps also the lack of fan noise.
Google quickly confirmed this and promised to help with a software update. That was supposed to come in December, but it was delayed for known reasons and was only rolled out on Pixel smartphones from mid-January.
Why a software update was needed and the product could not be offered as advertised from the start is again a typical Google development. But at least it hasn’t been forgotten and improved.
Pixel 6 (Pro) and Pixel Stand buyers are currently being notified by email from the Google Store that the update is finally here and just needs to be installed if it hasn’t already been done automatically.
If that happens, you should simply place the smartphone on the charging station and be able to charge it wirelessly very quickly with 23 watts.
The vast majority of users have probably received the update long ago and are already loading it at high speed, possibly without even knowing it. Therefore, this reminder from the Google Store is quite useful and is of course gladly passed on here in the blog.
It remains to be hoped that fast charging will also survive the next updates and will not lead to new problems due to the quite high performance and heat development.
Of course, the whole thing only applies to the second-generation Pixel Stand, which can only reach 23 watts in combination with the Pixel 6 Pro. According to support, the Pixel 6 is only 21 watts and all other Pixel smartphones are still only 10 watts.
