The Pixel smartphones have integrated several biometric methods for unlocking the smartphone over the years and, as is well known, Google is back to the fingerprint sensor for the Pixel 6.
This is installed under the display and is not visible to the user – which not only has advantages. As has now become known, this sensor cannot be reliably calibrated even by certified partners.
Google has changed the biometric unlocking methods on the Pixel smartphones several times and the Pixel 6 has returned to the fingerprint sensor, which is placed under the display and will probably also be used in future generations.
Normally, the sensor delivers a good, if not outstanding, performance. But after a display replacement or another repair in this area, it is necessary to recalibrate the sensor once. Google offers software for this, but it suffers from problems.
It has been reported that certified repair partners have not been able to use the application for calibration for several months. According to the screenshots above, this starts with the fact that the software cannot be installed, so the screwdrivers have to get out very early and cannot do anything.
There probably haven’t been too many screen repairs on Pixel 6 smartphones yet, but that’s about to change. Google is probably aware of the problem but has not received any feedback so far.
So take care of your smartphone and don’t let it come to a display repair in the first place.
