The announcement also revealed a number of details for the 2022 season, but one of the most notable is that teams will compete in the yet-to-be-released Overwatch 2. This will be a pre-release version of the game, which means some of the character skills and balance may be different than when the game officially launched.

Due to the use of Overwatch 2, it is officially confirmed that the new Overwatch esports team will be composed of 5 players (“Overwatch” originally consisted of a team of 6 players). In addition, the new map mode Push will also be added to the league.

Many other details of the new season have also been revealed. In a message from a community update, it was revealed that there will be four races throughout the season. The titles of these tournaments are Opening Rivals, Mid-Season Bash, Summer Showdown, and Countdown Cup. Also, the team now needs to play 24 games this season instead of 16 last year.
