According to the latest report, Apple usually updates MacBook Pro models regularly, and in 2022, we may see a new version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro and higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch versions released.
Rumors suggest that the new 13-inch model could launch as soon as spring, and given that the larger model just launched in October 2021, it will take longer for the next-gen update.
Apple last updated the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro in November 2020, when it debuted the first M1 Mac devices. It came out with the MacBook Air and M1 Mac mini, and all three product lines are due for an update.
Design
Rumor has it that the 13-inch MacBook Pro will not get any design updates, continuing to use the same body and Touch Bar — a feature that has been dropped on the higher-end 14- and 16-inch devices. However, not all of the leaks support the Touch Bar, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes that Apple will also cancel it.
Given the lower cost, the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro will not include a Mini-LED display, nor is it expected to support the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. With no design changes, the biggest change to the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the upgraded M2 chip.
M2 Chip
Since the launch of the M1, Apple has been working on a follow-up product that will presumably be called the “M2.” The M2 is expected to have the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but with improvements in speed and efficiency, as it will likely be built on a more advanced node.
As for GPU improvements, it will have additional GPU cores. There are expected to be 9- and 10-core GPU options, up from the original M1’s 7- and 8-core GPU options. The M2 won’t be as powerful as the M1 Pro and M1 Max, which will be succeeded by the M2 Pro and M2 Max.
Apple is expected to use the M2 chip in the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro and the 2022 MacBook Air.
14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models had a major update and iteration in November 2021, and Apple probably won’t refresh the design in 2022, because the 2021 model has a new look and a Mini-LED display. But you can expect new chips.
Upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may use future M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

Sources in Apple’s supply chain suggest that Apple may unveil the 13-inch MacBook Pro at its spring 2022 event, which is expected to take place on Tuesday, March 8. The other is mainly to release the iPhone SE 3 5G mobile phone.
