Open Camera is an alternative to the Pixel 6 Pro camera

While the Pixel 6 range has received great reviews, Google’s latest flagships have been affected by quite a few annoyances, such as poor fingerprint scanner performance and issues related to network connectivity or Magic Eraser functionality.

Although Google has fixed some of these issues via software updates, the company has yet to fix a bug with the default camera app on the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro that renders the devices inoperable, as reported by some users on the support website. Google and on Reddit.

Fed up with the problem, Cameron Kaiser has released a modified version of the Open Camera app that offers an at least functional alternative to Pixel 6 Pro users.

The modified Open Camera app is an alternative to the Pixel 6 Pro’s camera

Since Open Camera doesn’t support the Pixel 6 Pro’s ultra-wide camera and offers complicated zoom control, the modified app adds an on-screen button that makes zooming a little easier to control.

The fact that the app does not yet include support for the ultra-wide camera is certainly less frustrating than using the stock camera which forces the user to restart their device when it crashes.

The modified Open Camera app only works on the Google Pixel 6 Pro and not the Pixel 6 and is available on GitHub. While it doesn’t offer all the features of the pre-installed app, at least it works.
