Google still has some weaknesses in its own Pixel cell phones, some of which have been carried around for several years. And even the latest updates have not fixed all errors or at least only partially eliminated them.
So I want to tell you what still annoys me extremely when I use the Pixel 6 smartphones every day privately and professionally.
Screen brightness is sometimes reminiscent of old disco times
One of the particularly annoying factors is the automatic control of the display brightness. This is going particularly crazy with the Pixel 6 Pro. If you use the LED as a flashlight at a rather short distance from an object, the display also gets brighter. Sometimes up to 100 percent.
If I watch TV in low light, the display brightness reacts to the constantly changing ambient brightness caused by the TV. However, this always happens very erratically, which can be incredibly annoying.
The proximity sensor is highly sensitive
In this area, the sensors go crazy. The so-called proximity sensor is no exception. For example, if you listen to a voice message on WhatsApp and come a few centimeters too close to the front camera, the device switches to telephone mode. Playback stops and the display comes on again as soon as the proximity sensor becomes “clear” again. However, he reacts even if he is not actually covered.
So it often happens to me that the playback of voice messages or media in other apps stops because I only get a little too close to the sensor for a very short time. In my opinion, the sensor reacts too quickly, too sensitively and even at quite a distance, which I don’t know from other devices.
The camera experience still has room for improvement
You can expect smooth camera software from smartphones in this price range. But to this day, there aren’t any if you opt for a Pixel phone. While everything always runs a little better on the Pixel 6 Pro, I have significantly more hangups when using the camera on the regular Pixel 6.
Usually when I do a cold start with the camera. Extremely annoying and also simply unworthy of this price range. Last but not least, there is the authorization of the display, which worked rather modestly before the Pixel 6. Sometimes she reacts immediately, but often not at all for a few seconds.
