Linux Mint Debian Edition 5 enters beta

The Linux Mint Debian edition “LMDE” is continuing to be developed because the Ubuntu-based Linux Mint itself had to move its base to upstream Debian. Released today is the LMDE 5 Beta.

LMDE 5 continues as the development backstop when Linux Mint can no longer rely on Ubuntu as its default package base. The goal of LMDE is to use upstream Debian packages instead of Ubuntu, like Linux Mint.

Other than that this release uses the latest Debian packages and the latest versions of those packages created/maintained by the Linux Mint developers (like the Cinnamon desktop).
