Chrome OS: Use of Progressive Web Apps is exploding, almost 300 percent growth

Google is one of the major drivers behind the Progressive Web Apps, with which the web apps are to be detached from the browser interface and integrated more deeply into the respective operating systems. Google’s main focus is Chrome OS, which benefits most from these apps. Now you could announce a strong growth in the distribution of these apps.

With the Progressive Web Apps, web apps can detach themselves from the browser interface and be used like native apps on Android, Chrome OS, Windows and many other operating systems. Of course, they are still displayed by the browser, which, however, completely withholds itself outside of the rendered content. As a result, the user cannot distinguish between a local app and a web app at first glance. This is exactly the goal of PWAs.

According to Google, the spread of progressive web apps increased by 270 percent between February 2021 and February 2022. This information is based on numbers from the Chrome browser. But there is also good news for Chrome OS on another front: The use of Android apps from the Play Store on Chromebooks is said to have increased by 190 percent a year earlier. These are strong numbers, but you also have to take into account the temporary home office and Chromebook boom, which has long since slowed down again.

According to Google, Chromebook sales have increased by 90 percent in 2020. However, the fact that periods of time are indiscriminately thrown together for these cheering numbers shows that these growth rates are far from stable.
