Stadia should soon support Windows games

There will (have to) be many changes to Google’s gaming platform Stadia in the next few months, about which the company has already informed several times between the lines – above all the conversion to a white-label platform. But the game selection could also skyrocket over the next few months, with plans to support Windows games running directly in the Stadia cloud.

After a rather bumpy start, Google greatly expanded the game selection at Stadia in the following months and now has more than 200 titles – and the trend is still rising. But mass is not everything and Stadia suffers mainly from the fact that the really big titles are missing. Google has invested a lot of effort and money to change that and now they are tackling the problem at the root: by supporting Windows games, the effort for developers should be minimal.

In order to be able to run Windows games, Google is said to have developed its own Windows emulator for Linux. Because the vast majority of games in the desktop area are still released for Windows and Stadia is based on Linux, one is necessary. It could be a very big step and at least potentially bring Stadia a very large influx of titles.

So far, this has not been officially announced, but corresponding session descriptions for the developer event Google for Games Developer Summit 2022 already reveal some of it. So we can expect big announcements in this direction from next week and maybe also a longer-term Stadia or Google Stream roadmap.
