Uber Eats will launch a group buying and bill splitting feature

Uber Eats is getting a group buying and bill splitting feature that should make it easier to ensure users’ friends and family get their share of the bill. Users can now initiate a group order in the Uber Eats app, rather than passing their phones to everyone in the group to place their order. To do this, users must navigate to the restaurant they want to order from, click the three dots in the upper-right corner of the page, and then click “Group Order.”

There, users can choose to invite group members from their phone contacts; they’ll receive an order link via text message (which they’ll have to download if they haven’t already). Guests can then choose and pay for the food they want.

But if users feel they’re being extra generous, Uber Eats gives them the option to pay the full cost, while also letting users set spending limits that prevent anyone from ordering the most expensive meal on the menu. Whether it’s paying the full price or splitting the bill, Uber says all food will be delivered at the same time.

If users are planning a party of some sort, Uber also gives them the option to create a group order seven days before the planned event. People can pick food for a specific time window, and Uber will notify them in case they forget.
