Analysts say no new Apple products including mini-LEDs will arrive in 2022

Apple already offers some mini-LED products to customers, but as far as new hardware with this display is concerned, analysts predict no releases are expected for the rest of 2022. Several devices were originally planned for mini-LED upgrades, but according to Tianfeng International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, that won’t happen this year.

This prediction comes after Ming-Chi Kuo said a redesigned MacBook Air would arrive in 2022, but contrary to previous reports, it will feature the M1, not the M2, and not feature mini-LED. He also earlier predicted that Apple will upgrade its existing 11-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED this year. Unfortunately, DSCC analyst Young doesn’t think so, claiming that Apple has no such plans because the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro is already selling well enough to see no need for an upgrade.

Ming-Chi Kuo may have been paying attention to Apple’s supply chain, and today tweeted that no new mini-LED products will be launched in 2022. This means there may not be a redesigned iMac Pro this year, and refreshed versions of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models, which will arrive in 2023 and feature M2, M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets, and possibly workstation-grade Product M2 Ultra.

Apple will reportedly announce the M2 later this year, as previous reports said it would be mass-produced on TSMC’s 4nm process. With the release of this chip, we can expect to see a slew of portable Mac products starting to be updated, but according to Ming-Chi Kuo’s sources, none of these products will feature mini-LEDs.

The analyst believes that since the use of mini-LED is a direct result of cost issues, perhaps after Apple arranges its supply chain properly and reduces the price of this component, more products will use mini-LED. If not, Apple could go straight to the already more mature OLED , and Samsung is said to be developing a new display technology that meets Apple’s requirements and could be used universally across a variety of devices, including new iPad models.
