Microsoft unveils new Surface Hub 2 smart camera

Microsoft continues to expand its hybrid workplace territory, and today the company updated the Surface Hub 2S smart camera device and introduced a new AI-powered technology for the Smart Hub. The camera is billed as “Microsoft’s first AI-powered camera” and includes some great specs.

The 12-megapixel sensor, with a lens with a 136-degree field of view, maintains sharp focus both near (0.4m) and far (8m) in a variety of meeting room sizes and configurations.

  • 1 Teraflop of computing power (one trillion floating-point calculations per second).
  • New algorithms automatically compensate for tilt, distortion and wide-angle corrections to make objects look the same as they do in real life.
  • AI can detect people in a variety of poses, lighting conditions and rooms, ensuring every participant is equally visible.

The camera is specifically designed for Surface Hubs and includes an aluminum body and a USB-C mount that attaches easily to the Surface Hub via a magnetic mechanism. The camera will retail for $799.99 starting March 16 in all markets where the Surface Hub is sold.
