Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, still no Feature Drop but there is a novelty

The release of the Feature Drop in March by Google took place about ten days ago and was concerned exclusively with Pixel smartphones. Indeed, the Pixels except for the last generation which was temporarily excluded from the update. New features include the new battery widget, text-to-speech in phone calls and the Night Sight function in Snapchat. Well, this last tool is now making its debut also on Pixel 6 and Pro variant.

Warning: on the smartphones announced last October, the March Feature Drop has not arrived, but only the Night Sight functionality has been made available through an update of the Pixel Camera Services app. On the Google Play Store it reads:

Pixel Camera Services is a system component that adds Pixel camera features, such as Night Photo mode, to some third-party apps that you have granted permission to use the camera. This component is pre-installed on your device and must remain up to date for you to have the latest image processing updates and other bug fixes.

WHAT CHANGES

The app changelog – exclusive to Pixel 6 and 6 Pro – reports that ” the initial release activates Night Photo mode via the Camera2 extensions ” ( NOTE: Camera2 is a framework through which developers can access basic camera controls to activate them also on third-party apps (ex: exposure, ISO, night mode).

In a nutshell, the update activates Night Sight on the Snapchat app on Pixel 6 and 6 Pro: those who use the yellow social network will thus be able to count on better quality photos when these are taken in poor lighting conditions. It will not be a striking novelty, but certainly to be appreciated in certain contexts.

We remind you once again that this update only concerns Pixel Camera Services, and therefore the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It is not therefore the expected Feature Drop of March: for this – and for the other innovations introduced about ten days ago on the other Pixels. – there will be a few more days to wait.
