Samsung wins patent lawsuit in Russia to sell 61 phones

A Russian court on Thursday overturned a ruling banning Samsung from importing and selling 61 smartphone models in Russia, a lawyer for Samsung Electronics said. Samsung’s phone ban stems from an intellectual property lawsuit that began last year.

The ruling means Samsung’s sales are no longer restricted under Russian law, although the company has said this month (unrelated to the case) that it will stop shipments of equipment to Russia due to geopolitical developments. Many foreign companies have suspended operations in Russia after Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia.

Last year, Swiss company SQWIN SA took Samsung to court for infringing its Russian-registered patent for an electronic payment system. The injunction was never implemented due to Samsung’s appeal and SQWIN SA’s efforts to request interim measures against Samsung’s infringement.
