macOS Monterey: How do I use Universal Control? How to enable it

It’s been a few days now since the release of the macOS Monterey 12.3 update, which also introduced the long-awaited Universal Control feature. In this context, it is interesting to understand how to use the novelty.

Well, as also pointed out by The Verge, the question is a bit different from what one might think. Universal Control is in fact still in Beta and must be activated from the system settings. More precisely, once you have reached the System Preferences, it is necessary to first select the “Display” item and then the “Universal Control” item, then ticking the appropriate boxes relating to the functionality (again marked in Beta).

In case you are wondering, yes: even on the iPad there is a special option to activate, which can be accessed through the AirPlay options (more details in the official Apple video).

In any case, after having enabled all the appropriate options and logged in to iCloud, you just need to place the Apple devices you have chosen to use next to each other (up to a maximum of 3, but pay attention to the fact that all devices are compatible) and try to use the same input method (be it a mouse, keyboard or trackpad), moving content from one screen to another. Perfect, you have correctly configured Universal Control.

For the rest, if you have doubts about the novelty, you can refer to the official Apple guidelines (in English), in which everything you need to know is explained a little (list of compatible devices included).
