PlayStation will continue with single player games, but live services thrill it

PlayStation will continue to create stunning single-player games in the future, but live services represent an exciting opportunity for the company, according to Hermen Hulst, president of PlayStation Studios.

In light of the acquisition of Haven Studios, Hulst granted an interview to GamesIndustry to talk about this operation but above all about Sony’s future prospects for games coming to PS5 and PS4.

Obviously, we will continue to create narrative-based single-player games like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us and Horizon Forbidden West, but as you understand we have invested in live services because this is a really exciting opportunity for us: it allows you to create wider worlds and meaningful social connections between players.

“We have several projects currently in development or study, so we are organizing our resources internally. That’s why it’s great to welcome a group of people who have a lot of experience with live services to your family.”

“It’s a really exciting thing for our core services and tech groups, who will be able to work with talent like those who are part of Haven. And that’s part of the strategy of diversifying the types of games we offer to users.”
