Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 will have a significantly improved fold

The well-known whistleblower Digital Chat Station revealed on Weibo that Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 will still adopt a book folding solution, with an internal screen size of 8 inches and a cover display size of 6.5 inches.

However the fold this time around would have been significantly improved over that of the previous generation and both internal and external displays would now support higher refresh rates (120Hz instead of 60Hz).

The leaker also suggests the presence of DC dimming to protect the eyes, as well as an LTPO display for the internal panel. The whistleblower also revealed that although the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 was expected with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 manufactured by Samsung, the company may now opt for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus manufactured by TSMC, both for supply and performance issues.

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 folding smartphone should be launched around the middle of 2022 at a price that should be around 9,999 Yuan (around 1,433 euros).

Xiaomi optimizes smartphones for better benchmark scores

According to a series of tweets from John Poole, a developer of the well-known GeekBench platform, Xiaomi is optimizing the performance of its smartphones based on benchmark app identifiers.

Poole found that the GeekBench scores obtained by Xiaomi 11 were different when running the regular version of GeekBench compared to another build of GeekBench disguised as Fortnite.

In single-core tests, the device scores were about 30 percent lower on the disguised version of GeekBench compared to the regular build, while the multi-core tests showed results about 15% lower.

Apparently, the same performance tweak can also be seen in other games such as Genshin Impact, suggesting that Xiaomi has integrated identifiers into its devices in order to show superior performance, but in unreal gaming contexts.
