Fifteen days so much has passed from Sony’s promise to facts. In the past few hours, some owners of Xperia Pro I and Xperia 10 III have reported on Reddit the arrival of Android 12 on their smartphones, even if the Xperia 10 II is still missing. The diffusion, for the moment, is different: the build number 62.1.A.0.533 for Xperia 10 III is in rollout in some areas of Europe (no report in Italy, if you had received it please let us know in the comments), while the number 61.1.F.2.2 for Xperia Pro I started from Japan.
If the start times of the rollout for the two Sony smartphones arrived at the debut with Android 11 are almost the same, the builds differ in several respects, including the security patches. Android 12 arrives on Xperia 10 III with February patches, on Xperia Pro I with March patches. Probably, as often happens, the journey of Android 12 proceeds at low rates so as to give the Sony technicians time to verify the absence of important problems with the installation of the firmware.
In the next few hours, averted “heavy” trouble, the rollout could and should proceed at a faster pace, completing the round of active phones in the various markets in which they are sold in about a couple of weeks. Sony, it must be said, could have been faster in the realization of the two firmware, especially as regards Xperia Pro I: those who lighten up by 1,800 euros to buy a smartphone could want more attention from a real giant of the caliber of Sony.
Xperia Pro I has been on sale since December, but not in Italy. Marketing has started in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and some northern European countries. The company promised that in the course of 2022 the availability of the smartphone would be extended to other nations of the continent, but it is a promise before the “bomb” of February when Sony Italy admitted that it had started an internal reflection on the future of the Xperia in Italy. A few days later the company reassured the fans, but after a month even the Xperia distributed by us as 10 III is not yet available on Amazon or in the official shop.
