Apple Maps now supports real-time alerts from Safety Cloud. Safety Cloud is a digital alerting platform used by first responders and construction areas. Apple’s main navigation app already supports real-time alerts from other drivers. The introduction of Safety Cloud for HAAS alerts means that Apple Maps users can now receive warnings of road hazards reported by professionals.
The sources of HAAS alerts are first responders, professional trailers, and other emergency vehicles. When users approach these accident sites or vehicles, they will receive real-time alerts on Apple Maps.
HAAS Alert Safety Cloud is used by more than 1,200 public safety agencies, roadside assistance companies, tow truck companies, roadworkers and others who own vehicles or roadway equipment.
Although a lesser-known service among consumers, the HAAS alert system is actually standard on many emergency vehicles produced by various brands. The company said its services are integrated with aftermarket emergency vehicles, work area equipment, telematics systems and traffic management platforms.
Since the launch of Secure Cloud in 2017, the service has issued more than 1 billion digital alerts.
“With the addition of Apple Maps as a Safety Cloud digital alert partner, drivers using their iPhones as travel companions will now have a safer and clearer view of upcoming road conditions. We applaud Apple for prioritizing driver safety and taking steps to achieve’ Vision Zero’ goal of eliminating all traffic fatalities and serious injuries,” said Jeremy Agulnek, Senior Vice President, Connected Vehicles, HAAS Alert.
