Google’s keyboard app Gboard has recently focused on media and optimized the insertion of emojis as well as stickers, GIF animations and other things. Now there is finally another improvement in the core area that is used in conjunction with Google Translate: an automatic change of language.
Like any other keyboard app, Gboard allows you to quickly switch between several preset languages. These are particularly evident in the adapted word suggestions, but can also be reflected in the keyboard layout (keyword QWERTZ vs. QWERTY or other non-Latin layouts).
Switching is quick and easy, but it can sometimes be redundant, especially with the translator: you have to change the language for both Google Translate and Gboard. From now on this is no longer necessary.
Gboard and Google Translate now work hand-in-hand, so the keyboard app’s language always adapts to that of the translator. This should be incredibly useful for many people, albeit perhaps a bit confusing when first using it. It’s hard to say whether this should be attributed to Gboard or the translator as a new feature. I haven’t seen any other case where an app can change the keyboard language. Changing from keyboard to number or vice versa, but not adopting the language.
The update has been rolled out for a few days and should have reached all users by now. Of course, it can also be very practical in the most commonly used translations in this country, DE-EN and EN-DE, and ensure faster typing thanks to correct auto-completion.
