In South Korea, they seem not to have taken the GOS (Game Optimizing Service) issue related to the Samsung Galaxy S22 series very well. According to local media reports, the recent decline in sales of the latest smartphones could be attributed to that problem.
Sales downturn for the Samsung Galaxy S22 due to the GOS?
Last month, a problem identified with the Games Optimization Service, which was limiting the performance of GPUs and CPUs too aggressively in the name of energy efficiency in games or in some other apps, took center stage at Samsung. After the recent updates, the matter was resolved by the South Korean manufacturer, who also apologized by the mouth of Han Hong-hee, vice chairman and co-CEO of Samsung Electronics.
However, it seems that South Korean consumers have not immediately put a stone on it, as local media are talking about a drop in sales and an increase in promotions for the Galaxy S22 series to sell more units. KT and LG Uplus have indeed confirmed to push more promotions for Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 + and Galaxy S22 Ultra in the last few days.
According to analysts, the GOS issue could have contributed significantly to this decline, although obviously we cannot have certainties nor quantify its influence. In any case, it could have undermined some consumer confidence in the brand.
Recall that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is updating itself these days with the security patches of April 2022, also in Italy. The flagship smartphone, namely the Ultra version, was one of the protagonists of our super comparison between flagships.
