Sony’s new patent describes PSVR2 handle or can support grip operation

The official website of Sony PSVR2 has been online for a while, and it has recently been showcased to developers at GDC. The device has not yet announced a launch date, and it is reported that Sony’s goal is to release it within this year.

As far as the device itself is concerned, there are a lot of design changes that make it more comfortable to use. The PSVR2 is lighter than its predecessor, and the new vents keep the wearer from feeling overly stuffy. In terms of the handle, finger detection technology is added, and players can complete command input without even pressing a button.

Recently, some users discovered that Sony has registered a new patent related to the handle. This patent describes a handle with a strap attached to make the game more secure, of course, this is also a conventional design similar to the handle. However, based on the patent alone, it is not yet possible to determine the exact location of the strap.

There’s also a theory that Sony might develop a controller similar to the Valve Index’s knuckle grip. This kind of handle allows players to make grasping operations, which enhances the real experience. The pictures attached to the patent are not quite the same as any controller we have seen, which may be a prototype of the controller that came with the PSVR2. In any case, this will increase the interest of VR players in this new device.
