Some owners of new Studio monitors are facing issues trying to update Apple’s newest monitors to the latest firmware, resulting in some customers being told by Apple Support that they need to take their monitors to an Apple Store or Authorized Repair Center for repairs.

There are now a growing number of posts on Apple support forums where Studio Display owners report seeing an error message when they try to update the monitor’s firmware.

The error is “The Apple Studio Display firmware update could not be completed, try again in an hour. If the problem persists, please contact an authorized Apple service provider”.

According to the user description in the post, neither reconnecting the monitor to another Mac and/or restarting the monitor will fix the problem.

Users on the forums have reported similar issues, with some being told by Apple Support to send their monitors in for repair. The Apple Studio Display runs an iOS system that users can update through macOS’ system preferences.

Apple has promised a new update in the future after receiving comments about the poor picture quality of the webcam. The same update may include patches for problems users have encountered while trying to update their Studio Display.
