God of War: Who is Deimos?

Kratos’ family has always played a central role in the God of War saga, with many of the actions performed by the Phantom of Sparta involving his closest relatives both actively and passively, perhaps at the center of flashbacks and anecdotes.

We know who Kratos’ mother was in God of War, as well as the fact that Kratos is the son of Zeus, the God of Thunder and ruler of Olympus, but did you know that the iconic protagonist of the series also had a brother?

He is Deimos, Kratos’ younger brother. The two spent their childhood on the streets of Sparta, learning to fight using spear and shield. One day, however, a Deimos still a child was kidnapped by Ares, the original God of War, to avert a prophecy that had predicted the end of Olympus.

The most attentive connoisseurs of the franchise signed Santa Monica Studio will remember that Deimos originally appeared in the first God of War of 2005: his story is in fact briefly told in a movie present among the extras of the ps2 game.

The clip explained that as Kratos prepared to become a feared leader and later the Ghost of Sparta, Deimos was a prisoner in hell, where he grew up harboring a strong hatred and resentment towards his brother who had abandoned him.

The footage hinted that Deimos would play a potential leading role in the subsequent God of War II in 2007, however, the story mentioned in the progenitor was discarded by Santa Monica, who focused on a completely different story leaving the protagonist’s brother completely out of the second chapter.

Deimos made his official debut a few years later in 2010’s God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The PSP game stages the battle between the two conflicting brothers, eventually reserving a traumatic death for Kratos for Deimos, who promises to make her pay the Gods for the fate of her beloved relative. Staying on the subject of family, here are how many children Kratos has in God of War.
