We learned earlier this year that Google was rethinking its strategy for Google Pay. Allegedly, Google now wants to build a “comprehensive digital wallet”, which will become the central point of contact for Android users.
New wallet icon from Google
This includes all things, including cinema tickets, concert tickets, proof of vaccinations and much more. And at 9TO5Google you have now discovered a new icon for a “Google Wallet”, so this step could be imminent soon.
The logical conclusion would be that Google will present the new wallet approach at Google I/O 2022 next month and then possibly introduce it with Android 13 in late summer (could also be independent of the Android version).
As an iPhone user, I like the Apple Wallet and wouldn’t think a Google Wallet would be a bad idea. Allegedly, Google should have planned even more than Apple, for example, deals and actions would be possible, which you advertise in the new app. Let’s wait for May 11, there could be the details.
