Microsoft Edge adds new features such as automatic password saving and picture-in-picture mode switching

Microsoft Edge recently updated a new picture-in-picture button that appears on YouTube and other features. This feature was added to help users easily open videos in picture-in-picture mode. It appears at the top of any video, and the company doesn’t provide a toggle button to disable or enable it.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft allows anyone to turn off the picture-in-picture mode button by right-clicking, but you can’t turn it back on because Microsoft hasn’t added any switching methods to the settings. this is about to change, as the next update will give the user more control over picture-in-picture mode, and users can get a proper toggle key.

in one of the unreleased updates, Microsoft has added a new toggle key that can enable or disable picture-in-picture buttons from the browser’s settings. currently, if you right-click on the “picture-in-picture” button and turn off the feature, you can’t turn it on anymore.

As you can see in the screenshot below, you’ll soon be able to head to Edge’s settings interface to decide if you want to set the picture-in-picture button at the top of any video.

In addition to this switching feature, Microsoft is also testing a new way to automatically save passwords in Chromium Edge. After the update, you will be able to automatically save the password without receiving a prompt.

of course, this feature will be optional, it will not be enabled by default, if you want to use it you will need to enable it by going to the “password” tab under the settings page and clicking on the “autosave password” option.

as you can see in the screenshot above, you can easily turn on or off the “autosave password” feature.

New Edge extended control features

Microsoft is also working on a new feature that pauses and enables all extensions with a single click on a per-site basis. This will give users more flexibility with extensions and websites in Microsoft Edge, and it will come in handy when you don’t want extensions to read data from sensitive websites. For example, when browsing the pages of a service such as a bank or PayPal, you can turn off extensions to ensure that no third-party extensions can access this information.

you can pause the extension by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner and selecting “pause extensions for this site”. a large banner will appear on the website stating that the browser has paused all extensions, and it will also give the user an option to “resume the extension”.
