Smartphones of the Google Pixel series cost just at least 500 euros. We’ll tell you why there are currently no cheap models. It hurts if you are interested in a Pixel smartphone from Google, but have to put at least 500 euros original price on the table. Or get older devices in rather unknown shops for prices that are very far above the original MSRP of the manufacturer.
The backgrounds are simple, but they should hardly be known. And I would classify them to a certain extent as a mistake of Google. In any case, it is the case that Google last released two Pixel 4a smartphones in the price segment below the 500 euros two years ago. The successor Pixel 5a from 2021 did not come to Europe, but could only be offered in the USA and Japan due to the chip shortage.
Google almost let Pixel a series die out
Unfortunately, Google has not decided to continue the two Pixel 4a smartphones. Delivery and production were discontinued so that the devices no longer existed overnight. This also applies to the Pixel 5 from 2020, which would still be a good deal today for 300 euros. Google has decided to simply stop serving the popular middle class for at least a year – except in the markets mentioned.
This is the reason why there were no new or current Pixel smartphones for over a year via the usual channels that belong to the series or cost less than 500 euros. Just this year, Google is following up with the Pixel 6a. It is scheduled to be released in the summer and could mean an even bigger comeback.
But it could also be worth a Pixel 4a, if you get it somewhere cheap. The regular Pixel 4a has an update guarantee until August 2023 and therefore receives at least Android 13. The Pixel 4a 5G even has a warranty until November 2023, which should secure Android 13 and even Android 14.
