Route planning in Google Maps will soon be completely new

Google has been working on a new route planning for Google Maps for a very long time. The new interface could finally be available soon. I checked our history and saw that a new route planning interface for Google Maps on Android appeared almost a year ago. To date, Google has never rolled out the new interface on a large scale. Now there are new reports from users.

In any case, American users see the new interface on the one hand, but also completely new options on the other. This includes a new overview of all route planning options. On one screen you can see a summary of the options for a route, including avoiding toll roads, for example. The “Preferred modes” are also completely new. This allows you to determine which means of transport are your favorites.

Google Maps for Android will get a new interface for route planning

The latter is useful in the new route planning because it lists possible options for a route by car, on foot, public transport, etc. one below the other. Your favorite means of transport will then be displayed at the top of this list when planning the route and are therefore more immediately visible.

To date, it remains unclear when these innovations will also be available for German users. I’m using the latest app version 11.28 myself and still only have the old interface available. In any case, Google Maps would have deserved a slightly newer route planning and I don’t just mean that for optical reasons. Maybe the rollout of the new interface will start this summer.
