Google Pixel: Did you know it can react to sounds like babies crying?

Hardly anyone is likely to know one or the other function of the Pixel cell phone. This certainly includes noise detection. In any case, I only really noticed it again when I looked at the new Android 13 on the Pixel 6. There’s a tile in the quick settings called Sound Detection. There is a really cool function behind it.

You know that your smartphone has several microphones and these can be very sensitive. This is particularly important for Google Pixel because they want to shine with cool voice input. However, Google has also thought of noise detection, which works like a baby monitor, for example. On the one hand, the mobile phone can react to recognized noises. It also sends a notification to a connected smartwatch running the Wear OS operating system, if desired.

Google Pixel may also be a lifesaver or baby monitor

Sound detection runs in the background on the Pixel phone when enabled. It recognizes a wide variety of things that Google divides into three main categories. Emergency messages are, for example, smoke detectors or fire alarms. Google understands priority to be important things like baby sounds or a dog barking. The app can also hear your microwave beeping and detect running water.

In a small test with water, the detection worked well. However, I will definitely try how well and reliably the recognition of the baby noises works. And in case you didn’t know: Amazon, for example, offers very similar functions for its Alexa speakers.
