Twitter is testing Twitter Circle: an Instagram-like ‘close friend’ feature

According to the latest report, Twitter is testing its Twitter Circle feature, which is similar to a revamp of Instagram’s “Close Friends” feature. The feature was teased as one of many potential product updates in July, and last month, it appeared on the website due to a bug. Now, as the feature enters beta, a handful of users can share tweets with 150 of their closest friends.

Twitter says the feature is in its early stages, which is why it’s only available to some users right now. Even users who can’t create a Twitter Circle themselves will be able to see tweets from those who do, as long as the user is in their circle, of course. When users build their Twitter Circle, Twitter suggests that they add those mutual friends they interact with frequently (those who may be close friends of the user).

When a user replies to a tweet someone sent to their Twitter Circle, other members of the Twitter Circle can see and interact with the user’s reply. When users add or remove people from their Twitter Circle, they won’t know, so don’t worry about accidentally sending out embarrassing notifications. Unlike Google+ Circles, users only have one Circle, so choose its usage wisely.

To tweet to the Twitter Circle, when the user is tweeting, click the oval above the text box and change the audience from “Everyone” to “Twitter Circle”, the same way users tweet to the Community.
