This is coming soon to Google Photos for Android

In the past few weeks, some innovations for Google Photos have been announced. First and foremost, Android users benefit from the app. The new features that have already been discovered include a completely new control bar, which also reminds us a bit of Google Lens. The new control bar offers various buttons to be able to use practical functions more quickly. For example, you can quickly copy text from the open image.

The new toolbar enables quick reading, copying text, cropping, etc.

This new bar has appeared with the first users and should probably be rolled out for all users in the spring. It can be quickly eliminated with an X if you don’t need it. Because the controls seem a bit overloaded, the standard control bar from Google Photos can also be found at the bottom of the screen.

New gallery and better share tab

In addition to the home screen looking at your photos, there are three other tabs in the Photos app. Google is currently revising two of them very neatly. A few leaks already showed what to expect. For both areas, Google would like to implement a significantly better overview and offer additional functions. After the first leaks, Google announced that it was just fine-tuning the new tabs before they would soon be rolled out to users via an update.

In the Gallery tab, we see new filters at the top of the screen, and also further down, a new toolbar for handy features like import, locked folder, tools, archive, and recycle bin. Everything is then much easier to reach.

Screenshot quick access and video snippets

Also new is a note in the photos tab when a new screenshot has been added. Serves as a little reminder.

And last but not least, the snippets appeared a while ago . These should be very short excerpts from your videos that, according to the description, capture “the best moment” of the respective video. In our opinion, this happens fully automatically, the user does not have to do anything. Except waiting for this feature to be officially available.
