Google Maps is getting a whole new way of exploring

The Google I/O 2022 is over and most of the reports have been online with us for a while. But one thing was lost, although I find it very exciting. It was announced right at the start of the I/O keynote and affects Google Maps.

Google Maps gets an immersive view

Google’s map service will be given “a completely new way of discovering” in the coming months. Google itself speaks of a “more comprehensive and virtual map” for Google Maps. And this should come for all devices.

With this new view for Google Maps, there are now significantly more details on-site and you should “feel like you are right there”. Example? You wanted to plan a trip to London and are looking for a restaurant.

With this new and “immersive view” you can then, at best, look at the street and the restaurant on site. And not only from the outside, if the restaurant takes part, you can also visit it virtually inside.

Sounds interesting, but will only be available in very few cities at launch (should come at the end of the year): Tokyo, Los Angeles, London, New York and San Francisco. Other cities are planned, but a German city has not yet been announced. The following video gives you a first impression of it:
