Microsoft issued a reminder today that Windows Server 20H2 will end support on August 9. This means that once the deadline is reached, Windows Server version 20H2 will not receive any further updates, so security vulnerabilities that could affect the operating system will remain unfixed.
That said, after the August 2022 Patch Tuesday event, Microsoft will no longer bring the latest updates to this Windows Server, at which point the platform will be considered retired and not receive any other improvements.
Microsoft said: “Windows Server 20H2 will reach the end of service on August 9, 2022. This will also be the retirement of the Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel (SAC). There will be no SAC versions of Windows Server in the future, and this product is in Security updates will no longer be received after August 9, 2022.”
“Windows Server is moving to the Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) as the primary release channel. Customers using Windows Server SAC should move to Azure Stack HCI. Alternatively, customers can use the Windows Server Long Term Servicing Channel,” Microsoft said.
In addition, Microsoft also reminded us that the IE browser will be retired on June 15, when everyone needs to switch to the IE mode bundled with Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft said:
Starting June 15, 2022, the Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop app will end support in the Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel and Windows 10 IoT Semi-Annual Channel. We encourage customers to move to Microsoft Edge, which powers traditional and modern websites and applications.
For organizations that rely on traditional Internet Explorer-based websites and applications, websites will need to be configured to open in Microsoft Edge using Internet Explorer (IE) mode.
