DICE to remove 128-player breakout mode from Battlefield 2042, says 64-player is ‘more tactical’

Players will no longer be able to match for 128-player Breakout mode matches after the next Battlefield 2042 update is released Thursday morning. There will still be a 128-player Conquest match list, but developer DICE has decided that the breakout would be more interesting without Battlefield 2042’s double player count.

The chaos of the 128-player map was one of many criticisms of Battlefield 2042 when it launched. DICE said that after much deliberation, it agreed that in the 128-player breakout, “due to the increased intensity and chaos of combat, the importance of individual squads and players has decreased.”

Breakthrough is an offensive and defensive mode in which a team must occupy a series of areas in sequence, creating a somewhat defined front. Conquest mode, on the other hand, is simultaneous looting of all capture points of the map, which is characterized by many independent skirmishes happening at the same time.

“While reviewing Breakout mode, we noticed that the 64-player version represented a more tactical experience,” DICE wrote. “Reducing our player count here helped remove some of the confusion in the experience, plus Our reduction in the number of vehicles available means that players are able to hold the front lines more effectively. Players will also find more space to work together and perform their respective responsibilities.” This decision may also be due to the difficulty of the breakout mode match from the start. Fill 128 players.

Update 4.1 also made some balance tweaks. Angel’s ability to summon loading stations and distribute armor to allies has been nerfed, and Angel can no longer provide armor plates through his supply bag. Boris’ SG-36 Sentry Gun has also been nerfed.

The update will go live on Thursday at 1 am PT, 4 am ET and 9 am UK time. Updates need to be downloaded, but will not take the server offline.
