Google Assistant responds to funny hotwords, it doesn’t always have to be Hey Google

Long-time users of Google Assistant know very well that the voice assistant reacts quite often, even if no official hotword has been pronounced by a user. We can even deliberately take advantage of this often rather erroneous recognition in everyday life if we do not like the officially offered and very few hot words so much. Maybe some of the unofficial alternatives are better for you?

There are a large number of alternative hotwords that work in English. Only a part of it is also possible for German users, so honestly we have to be with you. For example, there is “Hey Hugo”, which always triggers Google Assistant on all devices. Hugo is actually a little easier for me than Google. Fans of Dragon Ball, for example, could bet on “Hey Goku”, which also works very well for me.

Google Assistant: Still no own hotwords usable and only a small official selection available

The following alternatives can be used more or less reliably. Just try it out for yourself, maybe one of the alternatives will be used more often from now on?

Hey/Okay…

  • Hugo
  • Goku
  • Udo
  • Guu Guu (Goo Goo)
  • Buu Buu (Boo Boo)
  • Doodle
  • Poodle
  • Gogle
  • Gögel
  • Gang
  • Boomer
  • You

And certainly, there are a few more examples, because Google primarily filters vowels and similar words are therefore difficult to distinguish from the original hot word. Maybe you even have some good tips for us?

Meanwhile, we are waiting for the possibility of either being able to create our own hotwords or google offering more real alternatives – both could be a long time coming.
